Diablo II's world as a survivors-like
D2 Survivors is a free browser game that turns Diablo II's world into a survivors-like. You pick one of the seven Diablo II classes, walk into a horde while your skills cast on their own, and choose an upgrade card every time you level up. The run pushes through the five acts of Diablo II and then into Nightmare and Hell, with D2's own skills, items and loot along the way. D2 Survivors is an unofficial fan project, not a Blizzard game, and it is free to play with no ads and no purchases. This page embeds the developer's browser build, so you can try D2 Survivors without installing anything.
How a D2 Survivors run works
A D2 Survivors run starts with a hero choice. Each of the seven classes brings its own skill tree, so the class you pick decides which abilities can show up as you level. You move with WASD or the arrow keys and the skills fire automatically; your job is to keep moving, line up the horde and stay out of trouble. Every level offers a card choice that shapes the run, and gear drops add another layer on top. C opens the character screen, I opens inventory, T opens skills, Tab shows the automap and Esc opens the menu. Click inside the game frame once before you start so the keyboard reaches D2 Survivors rather than this page.
Hosted files and your own Diablo II files
The browser build of D2 Survivors can read art and sound in two ways. The hosted option streams the game's art and audio from the developer's server, which is why you can start D2 Survivors here today without owning Diablo II. The developer has said the hosted option is temporary and will be removed. The long-term way to play D2 Survivors is to point it at your own copy of Diablo II with Lord of Destruction (patch 1.14) or Diablo II: Resurrected. Your files are read on your computer and stay there, in browser storage or the app's folder, and nothing is uploaded. Saves live in the browser or the desktop app, and Options has a Transfer Save tool for moving them between the two.
Browser or desktop app
D2 Survivors runs in any desktop browser, and the same game also ships as a desktop app for Windows and for Mac with Apple silicon. The browser version needs nothing installed beyond your Diablo II files, while the app runs in its own window, works offline and keeps itself up to date. There is no Linux app yet, but the browser version works on Linux. D2 Survivors is built for a computer: it needs a keyboard and your own Diablo II install, so a phone is not a supported way to play. If the frame on this page stays dark, open D2 Survivors in a new tab or try another network, because a strict blocker or filter can stop the embedded build from loading.
FAQ
D2 Survivors FAQ
Is D2 Survivors free to play?
Yes. D2 Survivors is free, with no ads, no purchases and no locked content. The developer accepts optional tips on Ko-fi, but a tip does not unlock anything in the game.
Do I need Diablo II to play D2 Survivors?
For the intended version, yes: D2 Survivors reads art and sound from your own Diablo II with Lord of Destruction (patch 1.14) or Diablo II: Resurrected. Right now the hosted-files option lets you try D2 Survivors in the browser without an install, but the developer says that option will be removed, so treat it as a temporary demo.
Is this the official D2 Survivors site?
No, this is an unofficial fan page on azerothsurvivors.org that embeds the game. D2 Survivors is made by framara and hosted at d2survivors.lol, it has its own fan page at d2survivors.org, and this site has no affiliation with Blizzard Entertainment.
Is D2 Survivors an official Blizzard game?
No. D2 Survivors is an unofficial, free fan project made by framara. It is not affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored or approved by Blizzard Entertainment, Inc.
Which classes are in D2 Survivors?
D2 Survivors includes all seven Diablo II classes: Amazon, Assassin, Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin and Sorceress. Each class has its own skill tree, and the class you pick shapes which upgrades appear during a run.
What are the controls in D2 Survivors?
Move with WASD or the arrow keys and let your skills cast on their own. C opens the character screen, I opens inventory, T opens skills, Tab opens the automap and Esc opens the menu. Click the game frame once first so the keyboard input goes to D2 Survivors.
Does D2 Survivors upload my Diablo II files?
No. D2 Survivors reads your game files on your own computer and keeps what it needs in browser storage or the desktop app's folder. The developer states that nothing is sent to a server.
Can I play D2 Survivors on a phone?
No, not properly. D2 Survivors needs a keyboard and your own Diablo II install, and the developer says it is a computer game. Use a desktop or laptop; the browser version works on Windows, Mac and Linux, and desktop apps exist for Windows and Apple silicon Macs.
What happens when you level up in D2 Survivors?
Every level in D2 Survivors offers an upgrade choice, shown as cards. Picking a card builds the run around your class and the skills you want, so two runs with the same hero can end up playing very differently.
Where are D2 Survivors saves stored?
Your saves live in the browser's storage when you play D2 Survivors in a browser, or in the desktop app's folder when you use the app. Options has a Transfer Save tool that moves a save between the browser and the desktop app.
Is D2 Survivors the same as The Division 2: Survivors?
No. The Division 2: Survivors is a Ubisoft survival-extraction mode, while D2 Survivors is a fan-made Diablo II survivors-like that runs in a browser. The two games share a word in their names and nothing else.
Why does D2 Survivors not load on this page?
D2 Survivors is embedded from d2survivors.lol, so a strict ad blocker, a school or work network filter, or a slow connection can keep the frame blank. Refresh the page, allow the frame, or open D2 Survivors in a new tab from the link under the game.
How long is a D2 Survivors run?
A D2 Survivors run is built around the five acts of Diablo II, followed by Nightmare and Hell. Runs are meant to be replayed, and how far you get depends on your class, your card choices and how well you keep moving.
